Section 5

Sustainable Development Goals Cross-Walked with IGUTP Environmental Guidelines

It is important to note that all of the SDGs are interconnected, and that progress on one goal often requires progress on others. For example, progress on SDG 11 (make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable) will require progress on all of the other SDGs, including those related to poverty, hunger, health, education, gender equality, clean water, energy, climate change, and economic growth.

The UN Habitat's "International Guidelines: Urban and Territorial Planning" (2017) provides a valuable framework for local authorities to develop and implement sustainable urban and territorial plans. The 11 environmental sustainability recommendations of item 14, Local Authorities, are particularly relevant to the achievement of the SDGs.
